Geert-Jan Arends (1963) holds a degree in Solid State Chemistry (1987 M Sc. University of Groningen). After his studies he worked for 8 years in Industry. First with the Multinational Corporation Philips Electronics in Research and Technological Development, later with a regional Industrial Adhesives company (a typical SME) in Veendam (NL).

Since 1995 he has worked for the University of Groningen. Initially as Technology Transfer Officer, later as specialist in Funding for Research and Liaison Officer for Brussels’ projects. Geert-Jan Arends set up and managed several national and international projects. He is also involved in the creation of public-private partnerships of the University of Groningen with other interested academic and industrial players.
